Workshop presenter Stacy Barton's fab short story collection Surviving Nashville has just been published.

Writers need readers. Contact Cris Phillips-Georg, founder of First Book-Orlando, to find out how you can help give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new book.

Amira Press will publish Writing Around Town regular AJ Robinson's YA Sci-Fi book.

If you haven't caught Darlyn Finch at one of her many local readings, be sure to purchase her book, Red Wax Rose, directly from Shady Lane Press.

Writing Around Town

Because it's always a popular choice, and always inspirational, we'll return to the Cornell Fine Arts Museum, one of America's top college art museums and home to Florida's oldest and most distinguished collections.

»» Our fee covers your admission to the museum, too. What a deal! Click for details

Creative Salon 2

Our first Salon was amazing. As one participant said, "What a fulfilling workshop this was, and what affinity we all shared through the telling of this woman's story. I find that very reassuring, in a world where 'separation', division and isolation sometimes manifest. It's nice to collaborate with intelligent and insightful women in this way." Our next Salon is inspired by The Best Buddhist Writing of 2005. Contributors include Asian masters such as the Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh and American practitioners such as writer Natalie Goldberg and poet Gary Snyder. This book will definitely spark lively conversation.

»» Strictly limited to a small group. Only a few spaces left!

Embodied Creativity

Most of us think of creativity as a gift: you either have it or you don’t have it. But most of the great wisdom traditions have shown us that creativity (and spirituality) can be fostered and enhanced through certain reflective practices. In this workshop, Lezlie Laws will introduce you to some of those practices. You will use breath and gentle movement to drop out of your rational mind and tap into your intuitive mind. In so doing, you will find access to authentic ways of expressing your feelings, your ideas, and your stories. Click for details

Saturday, June 9

From the Stage to the Page

Learn what you can transfer from the practice of the stage to the practice of the page. Drawing on her background in performance and flair for comedy, Playwright and Author Stacy Barton takes you on a whirlwind tour of dramatic structure, rich characters, and comic timing. With 25 years experience in telling, writing and improvising stories, Stacy brings her passion for connecting to audiences to this workshop. Click for details
